A group of charity heroes have raised a remarkable sum for local good causes despite the Covid lockdown.
Saddleworth Round Table faced all their events being cancelled or severely restricted, but their resolute team still managed to donate £18,831 to worthy causes.
Their impressive legacy of community successes were rolled out at their annual meeting when Stephen James became their new chairman taking over from John Arthurs, who was praised for hosting ‘an exceptional year in challenging circumstances.’
They set up a JustGiving page to raise valuable funds for NHS Oldham hitting a total of £10,396.92.
The money purchased much-needed PPE, toiletries, a coffee machine, food and hot dinners for the hard working staff.
Inspired by Greenfield rail station’s railways customer service assistance, Richelle Walsh, whose husband Trevor recovered after a long battle to beat Covid, the Round Table supplied iPads with chargers and headphones for the Oldham ICU wards.
These were offered to patients who did not own the electronic items and could not afford the cost of paying for the in-hospital entertainment.
Round Table also provided items for the maternity ward and thanked businesses including Widdop and Co, Boots, Costco and Ultimate Products, who helped and made donations.
In addition they collaborated with Oldham Food Bank, organising five successful collections during the year.
Stephen said: “We are planning for a very busy year ahead in 2021/22 and want to host the majority of our normal annual events, restrictions permitting.
“These are still trying times, but we hope we are on the road to some form of normality.”
