Young Glossop fundraiser's poppy paintings to be raffled off

A series of poppy paintings are to be raffled to raise money for the Royal British Legion.

The artworks have been created by Joseph Massey from Glossop, who has cerebral palsy.

His condition means he is a full-time wheelchair user and has limited movement but with support from Mel Bullough, one of his team of carers, Joseph has created the poppy pictures using hand and thumb prints.

Mel said: “Last year with all the stories on the news about Captain Tom and other fundraisers Joseph and I had a chat about how we could fund raise especially during lockdown.

“We had begun some art projects at home and decided we would try to paint and raffle off some poppies. Joseph raised over £300.

“As this year’s theme for the Royal Legion is 11/11, we will be raffling off 11 pictures.”

They are now asking for donations via a JustGiving page and are allocating one ticket for every £1 donated.

The raffle will be held live on Facebook on 1 November. Joseph will be then packing up then pictures and sending them out with the hope they reach the winners before 11 November.

No target has been set for the fundraising, but Mel said they hope to raise as much as possible and beat last year’s total.

Anyone who would like to make a donation and take part in the raffle can do so at https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/JosephMassey
