Work to trees to force Buxton road closure

Road closures will be in place next week in Buxton while work to trees in the woodland between A6 Bakewell Road and Dukes Drive is carried out.

The closures will be in place between Monday, March 16, and Friday, March 20, between 9.30am and 3.30pm each day.

Contractors working on behalf of High Peak Borough Council will be carrying out the work.

The borough council say access will be maintained wherever possible and the road will re-open as soon as the work is finished, which may be earlier than expected.

The authority adds that essential work is required to a number of mature trees due to their condition and their proximity to the road.

There are a number of ash trees with ash dieback and other trees, including elm trees, which are in decline. Where possible, deadwood will be left on the ground and, where it is safe to so, the lower part of the main stem of the tree will be left standing to create a deadwood habitat.

The borough council say it will be working with Derbyshire Wildlife Trust to develop a plan for the future management of the woodland and replacement of the trees.

The council also thank motorists in advance for their patience while the essential works are carried out.
