Which roads will be closed during Victorian and Heritage Weekend

The return of the Victorian and Heritage Weekend will mean Glossop town centre will be busy and hopefully packed with visitors.

As such, Henry Street, Market Street, Cross Street and the section of Chapel Street between Cross Street and Market Street will be closed to traffic on Saturday 28 and Sunday 29 May.

Surrey Street, Glossop Brook Road, High Street West and Railway Street will be closed for around 30 minutes from 11am on Saturday during the parade.

There's likely to be congestion throughout the weekend so motorists are advised to use Dinting Road or Turnlee Road as a diversion around Glossop town centre.

A temporary bus stop will also be in place opposite the train station on Norfolk Street, whilst Henry Street is closed on both Saturday and Sunday.

To accommodate attractions on display, the following will also be closed from Friday to Sunday:

  • The west end of the B&M car park
  • Glossop train station car park
  • Norfolk Arms / NatWest car park

The taxi rank outside the Norfolk Arms, all shops and businesses and the train station will remain open as usual.

The Glossop Victorian and Heritage Weekend committee said: "Thank you for your patience and understanding. With a little forward planning we hope you are not too inconvenienced.

"This long awaited festival for our town will be a welcome return of happiness after the pandemic. Please invite your family and friends to join us.

"If you are local, walk or cycle down if you can. If you are out of town the Glossop train stops right at the event, so why not let the train take the strain."
