Parking plans rejected

Proposals to create parking on green belt land in Glossop have been turned down by High Peak Borough Council.

Developers Mandale Homes are currently building 31 new properties and had applied for a change of use of further land to the Northeast of the former Hawkshead Mill to provide informal parking.

The applicant stated that the additional parking, not part of the original proposal, was now required as some prospective buyers had indicated a preference for conversion of the integral garage provided and so additional parking is required.

The proposals prompted 16 letters of objection to the Council raising various concerns about the application.

Planners refused the application as it would be inappropriate form of development within the Green Belt.

They also stated that the change of use would form a visually obtrusive feature which would detract from the rural character and appearance of the area.

Extension refused

A proposed three-storey extension to a property in Whaley Bridge have been refused by High Peak Borough Council.

The extension at 3 The Siding was to provide a garage at ground floor level, a dayroom and pool on the first floor, and an additional bedroom on second floor.

However, the proposals were turned down on the grounds that the extension would be a significantly disproportionate addition relative to the scale and massing of the existing house.

The overall character and appearance of the extended and altered house by virtue of the scale, form and materials would cause harm to the street scene and to the appearance of the local area.

All of the plans are available to view on the borough council's website at www.highpeak.gov.uk
