You don't have to be an adrenaline junkie to take part in the latest fundraiser for a charity that delivers care across the High Peak and Derbyshire Dales.... but it certainly does help.
Blythe House Hospicecare and Helen’s Trust are hosting a cash-making abseil at the iconic Millers Dale Bridge in the Peak District National Park.
The viaduct, above the River Wye, is the thrilling location for the 80ft abseil, 90 per cent of which is free hanging above the water below.
All the money raised goes towards providing free hospice care and support to people across the High Peak, Hope Valley, Derbyshire Dales and North East Derbyshire who are affected by life-limiting illness and bereavement.
Julie Forrest, from Chapel-en-le-Frith, who took part in the 2018 abseil, said: “As someone who is really scared of heights, I have always wanted to challenge that fear.
“Millers Dale was such a beautiful location that I just could not resist it, and what a thrill it was!
“It was a wonderful event to be involved in, and for my favourite local charity.
“If you’re thinking about it, I would say just go for it. You’ll be in safe hands.”
The minimum age to take part is 10 years old. There is a £20 registration fee and £75 minimum sponsorship requirement.
The abseil is on Saturday, April 25. It will be governed by the latest Covid-19 restrictions at the time; anyone who registers to take part will be kept fully up to date.
Blythe House Hospicecare, in partnership with Helen’s Trust, offers free, holistic care and support for anyone in the High Peak, Hope Valley, Derbyshire Dales and North East Derbyshire, who is affected by life-limiting illness.
The hospice is at Eccles Fold in Chapel-en-le-Frith.
