Sustainable Hayfield joins climate walk

A group of climate activists are currently walking the 500 miles from London to Glasgow where the COP26 gathering of global leaders will take place.

They were joined by seven members from Sustainable Hayfield for one of the stages of the route.

“We wanted to show our support for those who are undertaking this arduous journey, in all weathers,” said Sustainable Hayfield Chair Cath Moss.

“We are in awe of the sacrifice these walkers are making, staying in church halls along the route, and being apart from friends and family.”

The walk is just one of the efforts being made to raise awareness of how high the stakes are for the COP26 meeting and the need for global leaders to reach an agreement and take meaningful action.

Cath said: “International scientists have already reviewed the evidence of climate change, leading the United Nations to declare ‘code red’ for humanity and the planet if things don’t change.

“COP26 is widely regarded as the ‘last chance saloon’ for meaningful action to be taken to curb our current irresponsible use of resources.”
