Stitching their way to success

A friendly group of stitchers and textile artists are looking to welcome new members when they return next month after a summer break.

Anyone who is interested in any form of textile art is invited to go along to a meeting of Textile Connections, formerly Glossop and District Embroiderers Guild Branch.

They meet monthly and enjoy talks by textile artists and exploring new techniques.

Recognising that embroidery now encompasses a broader range of approaches, they enjoy exploring different and varied materials, and processes.

They have experimented with dry and wet felting and embellishing techniques, weaving, darning, melting, dissolving, dyeing, printing, and painting fabric and even creating completely new fabrics.

As well as regular monthly meetings the group also run workshops, visit galleries and craft shows.

Members of the group create work individually and collectively. Recently they created a wall hanging for Reuben’s Retreat. They have also made items for charities to sell to help raise funds.

Some of the items they have created are currently on display as part of the Stitchwork exhibition being held at Astley Cheetham Art Gallery in Stalybridge.

It is open Wednesday afternoons from 1pm-5pm and on Saturdays from 10am-3pm until 25 September.

Textile Connections are now able to meet face to face and their next meeting is in September. The monthly meetings, on the last Wednesday of the month, will be held in Hyde until December but from January 2022 will return to Glossop.

If you are interested in getting involved or would like to find out more, contact Ann Cornes on 0161 343 3819 or email chair.glossopeg@yahoo.com.

The group is independent of but affiliated to the Embroiderers' Guild.
