Schools allow later start due to Euros final

It may not have been the result that we hoped to see but many of High Peak's school children were able to have a lie in on Monday morning after watching the football - thanks to their headteachers.

A number of school leaders, many of whom has never seen the England men’s football team reach a final, relaxed the start of the school day to allow children to arrive later than usual.

They appreciated the importance and rarity of the occasion and acknowledged many children would want to watch the final, which ended up going to extra time and the dreaded penalties.

Unfortunately, it was heartbreak for Gareth Southgate's side, who drew 1-1 with Italy after extra time before losing 3-2 on spotkicks at Wembley Stadium on Sunday evening, with the outcome not known until around 11pm.
