Santa gears up to spread Christmas cheer across Glossopdale

It's approaching the most wonderful time of the year and that means a familiar festive face will be once again touring Glossopdale's streets to bring some Christmas cheer.

Glossop Mountain Rescue Team's Santa will be at the switching on of the Christmas lights in Glossop's Norfolk Square on Saturday 27 November, and then at the Old Glossop Christmas Fair on Sunday 5 December.

The team is also making plans to bring Santa and his sleigh to different parts of the area, from Sunday 12 to Tuesday 21 December, with exact routes to be confirmed nearer the time.

As usual, people will also be able to track where Santa is and watch his progress via the Glossop MRT Facebook page.

"Every year, we are amazed by the kindness and generosity of the people of Glossopdale towards Glossop Mountain Rescue Team and we would like to thank everyone for that," a spokesperson for Glossop MRT said.

The Santa Run, as it is known, is usually the single biggest fundraiser in the year for Glossop MRT - which relies solely on people's generosity, as it does not qualify for government funding.

Last year's event did go ahead but had to be scaled back somewhat due to Covid-19 restrictions, with Santa's elves having to stay at home instead of knocking on doors, people having to respect social distancing and remain in their properties, while no sweets were given out to children.

Anyone who would like to donate to Glossop MRT during the Santa Run can give Santa's elves a wave and they will come to you, or you can text GMRT followed by the amount you wish to donate to 70470 - i.e. GMRT 1 to donate £1. Texts will cost the amount you wish to donate plus one standard rate message.

Donations can also be given at any time via the JustGiving page: www.justgiving.com/glossopmrt

"We know that these are difficult times for many and so we really do appreciate any help," a Glossop MRT spokesperson added.

"The team are all volunteers and so every single penny donated goes to pay for essential equipment and supplies, enabling us to assist people in difficulty in the countryside around Glossop that we all enjoy so much.

"We are really looking forward to bringing some Christmas smiles to everyone soon."
