Roof of historic Whaley Bridge landmark to be repaired

High Peak MP Robert Largan has welcomed the news that the Canal & River Trust have successfully tendered and signed a contract to fix the roof of Whaley Bridge Transhipment Warehouse.

The local landmark has badly needed roof repairs for many years and the announcement represents a big step forward for preserving a key piece of Whaley Bridge’s heritage.

The announcement follows a meeting between the High Peak MP and representatives from the Canal & River Trust to discuss the roof earlier this year.

Mr Largan commented: “This is a huge step forward for Whaley Bridge. This will help ensure this fantastic landmark and piece of local history is preserved and will open up lots of opportunities to properly utilise this fantastic community asset.”
