Rights of way issues

New laws mean that any pre-1949 rights of way not on official maps could be lost ever.

That is unless they are recorded before the new legislation kicks in in 2026.

Marianne Stevenson, who chairs Tintwistle Parish Council, is determined none will disappear under her watch.

She told councillors at their latest meeting: “Now is the time to register them.”

The idea is to come up with a list of paths to be saved at a future meeting and get them recorded.

With so many rights of way criss-crossing the parish, it could be a long meeting.
