Residents will be helping to keep Whitfield tidy

A newly-created litter picking group in an area of Glossop will be conducting their first litter pick this weekend.

Whitfield resident Clare Hennessy recently set up the group called 'Whitfield Womblers'.

They will be holding a litter pick on the second Saturday of each month from 10.30am to 12pm, and the first is this Saturday (12 June).

Some residents who will take part have acquired litter-picking equipment through the borough council's new Pick Fit scheme - where residents who get involved with litter picking in their local area can be offered a week's free pass at the leisure centre to use the gym or pool.

Anyone who wants to take part on Saturday should meet outside the Pure Vibes centre on Ebenezer Street shortly before 10.30am.

Organisers have some gloves and pickers but people are asked to bring their own if they have them.

All are welcome but children should be accompanied by parents.

Local residents can also join the 'Whitfield Womblers' group on Facebook by clicking here.
