Residents of all ages help to clean up Hadfield and Padfield

A group of dedicated Hadfield and Padfield residents of all ages have been doing their bit to clean up their local community.

In total, 25 people - 19 adults and six children - popped down to Carmel Church in Hadfield to lend a hand on the first Saturday morning of this month.

A variety of areas in Hadfield and Padfield were focused on as folk went off in their respective bubbles, including: Bankswood Park, Hadfield town centre, Lambgates Lane, the Longdendale Trail, Platt Street, the Rec, the reservoirs, Vale House Drive etc.

From a broken bicycle wheel and a stray traffic cone, to part of a car alloy rim and even a random rake, they collected all sorts of litter and debris.

Padfield borough councillor Ollie Cross (pictured below) also took part and he thanked everyone who made the community clean-up happen.

He said: "I had a wonderful time taking part in May’s Carmel Community Clean Up with local residents. Afterwards, we were all treated to a delicious bacon butty courtesy of Jacqueline Gillespie-Cox whilst Gill made lovely goodie packs for the children and refreshments for the adults too.

"A huge thank you to High Peak Borough Council for agreeing to pick up the big pile of rubbish we collected and for generously providing Hadfield Coming Together and Carmel Church with four boxes of litter picks, 200 heavy duty bin liners and a box of 100 disposable gloves for our community clean-ups.

"I also want to say a big thank you to Carter and Angelica Fox who kindly helped me dispose of some excess cardboard we had at church responsibly. Along with their younger brother Parker, they put in an excellent shift, and were a massive help cleaning up our local community the other week."

The next Carmel Community Clean Up will take place on Saturday 5 June. All are welcome, equipment is provided and you'll be treated to a bacon butty afterwards too.

Anyone who would like any further information about the project can contact Gill on 07549 307720.
