Raffling off treats for rescue centre

A village bakery has cooked up some tasty treats for an animal charity.

Pixie Bakes Cakery and Coffee Shop on New Road in Tintwistle has been raising money for Haywill Animal Rescue and Therapy Centre.

With this year being so difficult for many, Jean Scriven and her daughter Emily decided to do something to help their local rescue centre in Glossop.

Jean told us that they ‘naturally thought of raffling cake’.

“Before we went any further, we asked if any friends would like to donate anything to go with the cake,” she said.

Jean said she was ‘absolutely overwhelmed’ with the quality donations, allowing them to create two huge hampers.

The hampers, containing gifts, quality bottles, chutneys and vouchers, raised a whopping £1,116 for Haywill.

“We also received donations of animal food and have decided to continue being a drop-off point for food donations from now on,” said Jean.

They are now asking if anyone has any donations of pet food or supplies to bring them into the shop during opening hours.

Rescue centres have had a huge surge in calls during the pandemic, with many being unable to care for their animals.

In a time of great uncertainty, it’s vital that charities are supported with the help they need, say supporters.

Here are just a couple of the animals at Haywill:
