During the August bank holiday weekend, The Craft Barn in Hadfield will once again transform into its alter ego the 'Wall in the Barn' to host a solo exhibition of the work of Glossop-based artist and illustrator Chellie Carroll.

This exhibition, charting 15 years of Chellie's career, will be the first in person event since the pandemic struck.

Visitors will be able to enjoy early examples of the artist's work with commercial pieces for the Sunday Times magazine up to recent commissions for Hachette Books, Penguin and Disney. 

Chellie told us: “When I first started illustrating, my style was mainly detailed computer based vector line work. Recently though, I’ve been experimenting with mixed media painting and drawing, working in layers to give my illustrations more depth.

"I’m hoping that I can take this a step further and start working without the aid of a computer and revert back to pens, pencils and paint. The computer though could be a hard tool to give up all together."

From Disney characters to climate rebels, female athletes to wild animals, there will be something for everyone at the exhibition, which will be open from 11am until 4pm on the 28th, 29th and 30th August.

In addition, children aged 16 and under are being encouraged to bring along their own illustrations of their favourite story book characters.

All drawings brought to the Barn over the weekend will be put on display and the young artists' names will be added to a draw, the prizes will be a signed copy of 'Fantastic Female Adventurers' and a set of art materials.

Manager of the Wall in the Barn, Julia Norton, said: “I am so thrilled to bring this fantastic body of work to the wider public gaze. Visitors will be able to view and purchase some stunning original pieces and prints. I know many local residents will be proud of having such a talented artist on their doorstep."
