Pots of love in Tintwistle

Tintwistle Women's Institute members have been 'showing the love' over the lockdown by making pots of summer flowers and giving them to villagers.

Like most groups and societies, there hasn’t been a WI meeting for months, so creating the pots at home was a great way of passing the time and putting a smile on people’s faces.

Tintwistle WI president Vicki Baker said: “We must have made between 60 and 70, we want people to take a pot of the summer flowering bulbs and enjoy them.”

There is a table of the pots - which are going like hot cakes - outside Pixie Bakes Cakery and Coffee Shop at 10 New Road, Tintwistle.

WI members have also given them to friends and neighbours and left them on doorsteps which had given people a lovely surprise when they step out.

A poster with the coffee shop pots says ‘Tintwistle WI are ‘showing the love’ in support of the Climate Change Coalition.

The WI was one of the founder members of the coalition and works to protect what members love, from climate change and lobbying politicians to prioritise tackling the issue.

Vicki and the rest of her green-fingered members hope people will plant the bulbs, which come in three varieties, and look forward to them flowering in summer.

They also hope that it won’t be too long before lockdown eases and they can all meet up again.

In the meantime, they are keeping in touch by phone and Vicki is compiling regular newsletters which she sends out to the members.
