Police appeal after damage at New Mills Community Orchard

The damaged bridge.

Just days after it was awarded a coveted Green Flag for the 13th consecutive year, vandals have struck at New Mills Community Orchard.

Police were called to the orchard at High Lea Park on Thursday night (4 August) after it was discovered a bridge has been damaged.

Officers are now working to identify those responsible and are asking anyone with information to contact them through the Glossop SNT or Buxton SNT Facebook pages, or to call 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

The community orchard is planted on the site of a 17th century orchard, alongside the wooded area by High Lea Park and is cared for by a small and dedicated team of volunteers.

Each year, an annual Apple Day is celebrated when lots of families, young people and other members of the community turn out to support and enjoy the orchard. This year the event is due to take place on 25 September.
