A new community centre for Chinley is moving closer after plans were submitted to High Peak Borough Council.

The Community Centre is a very well used community hub but the building, built in the 1960s, is in a very poor condition and is no longer fit for purpose.

Under the proposals submitted, the old centre would be demolished and replaced with a new larger purpose-built facility on the same site, which is owned by the parish council.

The accommodation would include a main hall, social space, multi-purpose room, kitchen, library and associated WCs, changing facilities and storage.

The proposals also include an external terrace and associated external landscaping. The car park would be enlarged to provide a total of 27 spaces, including two disabled parking bays.

A spokesperson for Chinley, Buxworth and Brownside Community Association said more detailed designs are being prepared ready to go out to tender for the construction phase of the project.

They also said that they will be applying for the funding necessary to build the new centre early next year.

The plans are available to view on the council’s website at www.highpeak.gov.uk
