Plans revealed for Glossop's new fire station

What the new fire station will look like.

Plans have been submitted to High Peak Borough Council for a new fire station in Glossop.

The existing building at Whitfield Park is 50 years old and is viewed as outdated and no longer fit for purpose.

The application put forward is to demolish the existing fire station and outbuildings and construct a new station and a new smoke training building on site.

Under the plans there will also be an increase in parking within the development.

The changes are part of a £9 million investment by Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service in three new fire stations cross the county in Glossop, New Mills and Matlock.

The site has 12 houses which were once home to operational firefighters. Changes in how the service operates mean they are no longer required, and several have been sold.

In documents submitted with the application. it is stated that the intention is to sell off the remaining houses to part fund the redevelopment of the Fire Station.

Consultation on the application is open until 6 January.

The plans are available to view on the council’s website at www.highpeak.gov.uk
