Plans in the making for return of Tintwistle's Gala Day

Organisers are planning for Tintwistle's annual Children's Gala Day to go ahead this summer.

Last year's gala had to be cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic but it's hoped the village's biggest annual event will be able to proceed on Saturday 26 June.

That's five days after Prime Minister Boris Johnson has said almost all restrictions could be lifted by (21 June) including legal limits on social contact.

The gala committee all retired in 2019 - the year that the event celebrated its centenary - and a lack of new volunteers meant the future of the gala had been in doubt.

But Tintwistle Athletic Football Club stepped in to ensure the gala can continue and they are looking for people to get involved in making this year's event happen.

Joanne Crossland, from Tintwistle Athletic, said: "After the Covid-19 update, as long as the roadmap out of lockdown goes to plan, we will be fine to hold our annual Children's Gala Day on Saturday 26 June at West Drive Football Centre.

"Thank you to all who attended the planning meetings for last year's Gala Day. We will be holding planning meetings once again once lockdown restrictions allow.

"If you would like to be involved in the planning, preparation or are able to volunteer on the day, message Jill Crossland on 07950 359878 or email jill.crossland@outlook.com with your name, contact number / email address and we will be in touch soon.

"If you or your organisation would like to have a stall on the day, please also get in touch. Book Saturday 26 June in your diaries for what should be a great fun day for everyone."
