Planning ahead

Glossop North End Juniors have revealed a number of exciting plans to take the club forward.

A planning application has been submitted to High Peak Borough Council for the development of playing fields at Cemetery Road, Glossop. 

The project called ‘Cemetery Road Football and Community Hub’ will provide Glossop and the surrounding area with a new sporting facility to enhance the provision to play sport for children, young adults and adults.  

The plans are for a new entrance/exit onto the site, car parking for 100 vehicles, a new community building , kitchen area and a function room, with capacity for over 100 people, a new fully enclosed 3G pitch and two reconfigured grass pitches. 

The plan is that the facility will allow the Club to expand from its current no. 453 membership by offering football to a wider range of groups including more girls football, more pan-disability teams, adult football teams and seniors football. 

In addition, the facility will be of benefit to and be available for whole community use.  The Club is inviting other sporting organisations and social groups from the area to contact us, to see how you can get involved with using the site. 

Chairman of the Club, David Rowlinson said “it has taken the Committee over three years to get to this stage, it’s been a long process but now with the release of the drawings & images and the planning application being submitted, the people of Glossopdale and surrounding areas can, at last see what their new football and community hub is all about.  

Gaining planning approval will be the first step and we need the whole community’s support for the development. Support for the scheme will be available to be downloaded onto the High Peak Borough Council’s planning portal soon.

There remains a lot of work to be done, in particular on the fund-raising side.  We have already raised £60,000 towards the project but we will need to raise at least another £150,000. This is where the help and assistance from our players, their parents and families, together with the support of local, regional and national businesses will be critical for this scheme to happen.

We will be holding an open day at Cemetery Road on Saturday 29th June when the public can view the poor state and condition of the existing buildings, see the plans for the new community facility and also meet members of the Club’s Committee and our Planning Advisors to discuss the facility in more detail. 

We are determined this scheme will happen, to improve the sporting provision in the town and importantly to provide a legacy to not only our members but all the residents of Glossopdale and surrounding area.”
