Padfield church supports Hadfield community group

Reverend Kathy Shaw and Gill Cross.

A Hadfield community group has benefitted from a local church's Harvest Festival.

Padfield Congregational Chapel donated their Harvest food collection to Bellies Not Bins.

Councillor Ollie Cross and his wife Gill both volunteer at the charity which feeds local people in need.

They told us: "All of us at Hadfield Coming Together and Carmel Church would like to say a very special thank you to Reverend Kathy Shaw, the Church leaders, the congregation and everyone else connected to Padfield Congregational Chapel for generously donating their Harvest Food Collection to Bellies Not Bins."

Cllr Cross, who is also deputy mayor of the High Peak, added: “Gill and I attended a lovely service to celebrate the Harvest Festival. Gill Cross who is the Chair of Hadfield Coming Together was invited to say a few words to the congregation about Bellies Not Bins and the great work Hadfield Coming Together and Carmel Church carry out in Hadfield, Padfield and Tintwistle.

“We would like to say thank you to everyone who kindly helped pack up and get the sizeable donation into Gill's car afterwards too. There was so much food that the donation filled Gill's boot and the entire back of her car. It was absolutely amazing.

“We're also incredibly grateful to the Chapel for making the donation box a permanent feature so folk can donate all year round too.

“Since March 2020 the demand for many of our services has practically doubled. We're currently doing anywhere between 80-100 food parcels per week and anything from 120-150 children's packed lunches per week during the school holidays.

“We massively appreciate the continued support of Padfield Congregational Chapel. Generous donations such as this will help us to continue to serve Hadfield, Padfield and Tintwistle going forward.

"We're truly blessed to have such a compassionate, kind hearted and supportive local community.”
