High Peak Borough Council's impressive plans for Glossop's town hall complex has already included major work to some of the 'heritage' buildings.
The ambitious project that is estimated to cost around £7 million will see a lot more before it is finally completed.
It's likely to be the biggest regeneration of the town hall, market hall and Municipal Buildings ever envisaged by a council for Glossop.
It will see 19th century town centre buildings given a forever future.
The scheme to make the historic complex fit for the 21st century has already seen a new roof for the market hall.
The traders have long since moved out, the interior totally stripped, as the council work on plans for seven food and retail units and space for 'events'.
There will be a mezzanine floor with non-food retail units and start-up businesses. While outside on the market ground cobbles, there will be more opportunities for traders.
It's all a far cry from when the Municipal Buildings once doubled as the home of the former Glossop Town Council and a children's clinic that included a dentist.
There was once a fish market, while the cobbles were covered with stalls and every May and September the car park was closed for the visit of a travelling fun fair.
They are all changes to the living heart of Glossop, without altering the look of age-old buildings that are part of our heritage.
