Newly re-elected Etherow county councillor outlines her priorities

Councillor Becki Woods.

Newly re-elected Etherow county councillor Becki Woods has outlined her priorities for the next four years.

The Labour councillor will continue to represent the communities of Gamesley, Hadfield and Tintwistle on Derbyshire County Council until the next election in 2025.

She kept hold of her seat after receiving 1,243 votes in last week's election - a majority of 124 ahead of nearest challenger Thomas Wynne of the Conservatives.

Earlier this week, the newly-elected county councillors went to County Hall in Matlock to sign their Declarations of Office.

Councillor Woods said she was delighted to be back and grateful to all those who voted for her and helped in her campaign.

She said: "My priorities now are to help build up the local economy coming to terms with the effects of Covid and sustain and create jobs. It will be so important to invest in our young people and at the same time ensuring the care and needs of the elderly are properly catered for.

"The 'More Police and Safer Streets' promise from the new Police and Crime Commissioner will be at the forefront of my demands to tackle local crime and instances of anti-social behaviour.

"I am also looking forward to renewing my links with the many community groups that are so vital to the Etherow division."
