Newly-recruited police officers will be starting their careers in Glossop and Buxton this week.

The new recruits now hold Pre-Join Degrees in Professional Policing.

The Pre-Join Entry Route is for those who want to gain a degree first, and then pursue a career in policing.

The group had been learning at the University of Derby on their practical and theoretical knowledge, with the option to join as a Special Constable serving the community while completing their course.

In June, they started on a focused training programme as full-time PCs.

One of the trainers, PC Simon Wolverson, said: "Over the past eight weeks these students have given 100 per cent, and over the past three years they have not only successfully completed a degree, they have also been successful in the role of Special Constable. To me, this evidences their work ethic and great motivation both in class and while working from home due to Covid-19.

"All students have gained a high level of knowledge, and have been keen to get involved with any tasks they were set. I am sure they will go on to great things."

As well as Glossop and Buxton, some officers have now started work in Swadlincote, Chesterfield, the Amber Valley, Erewash and the city of Derby.
