New bus service found to take school pupils from Glossop to Chapel

Children from Glossop who are losing their school bus service to Chapel-en-le-Frith in the New Year won't be left stranded.

High Peak Buses are stopping the 61a service in January as they say it is no longer financially viable.

But it left pupils living in Glossop, who were allocated a place at Chapel-en-le-Frith High School, with no way of getting there.

Parents were concerned they’d have to fork out for taxi fares each day, which for many would have presented a financial strain on them.

But now they’ve been sent an email from the Long Lane school, telling them that a new coach service has been arranged instead of the 61a.

It reads: "As you are aware, the High Peak Service 61A is ceasing to operate after the Christmas break. School have secured a private hire service with Bentleys Coaches who will operate the route.

“As this is a private hire service, payment for tickets will need to be made to the school via parent pay or paypoint, these are available to purchase now.

"The weekly ticket price will remain the same at £18.30, unfortunately school will not be able to issue daily tickets nor will the drivers be able to accept cash on the bus. If you would like to purchase a termly ticket, please contact the school office.

“Students will be issued with a bus pass from school to allow them access on the bus, this will need to be shown to the driver on each trip.

“The timing of the bus will change to slightly later, as below, so students do not arrive too early to school.”

The coach service will leave St Andrew’s Church in Hadfield at 7.15am and will stop at four places in Glossop before continuing on to Hayfield, Birch Vale and New Mills, arriving at Chapel High School at 8.30am.

As with national guidelines, students are required to wear a face covering when using the bus service.

On Monday 10 January 2022, the service will operate for Year 11s only in the morning, however in the afternoon all students can use the service. On Tuesday 11 January, the service will operate for all students.
