Mountain rescue teams play their part to provide support in the snow

High Peak's mountain rescue teams have been busy over the weekend - not just rescuing people in trouble gut also providing vital support to the police and health teams. 

Members of Glossop MRT were out on Sunday evening with the Integrated Urgent Care Team from Tameside and Glossop Integrated Care (NHS Foundation Trust) delivering urgent care to patients in their homes around Tameside and Glossop. 

While Buxton MRT have been working with Staffordshire Police performing welfare checks on residents in the harder to reach areas of the Staffordshire Moorlands area.  

Team work has been a key factor in a number of rescues over the weekend after heavy snow in many areas. 

On Saturday, Buxton and Edale MRTs were called to help a man who had collapsed while tending to his sheep. 

While dealing with the incident a second call came about another medical collapse and Kinder MRT were called to assist. 

Later, on Saturday evening, Edale MRT were called to help rescue an elderly couple stranded in their vehicle that was stuck in the snow. 

Then on Sunday, Buxton MRT were called to help a walker who had fallen and injured their leg near High Edge in Buxton. 

The casualty was transported by the team to Buxton Fire Station where an ambulance was waiting. 

The area’s MRTs are all volunteers on call 365 days a year. They rely on donations from the public. To find out more about them or how to support them visit the team’s websites.
