Glossop's heroes of the hills came to the rescue to help two people who became injured during a competitive race at the weekend.

Glossop Mountain Rescue Team were called out on Saturday at around 5.40pm to assist two competitors of The Spine race.

One woman had sustained an ankle injury and a man could no longer continue in the competition, a GMRT spokesperson said.

One crew member came across the woman whilst walking along the Pennine Way, near to Torside Clough, and called for further assistance.

The injured pair were driven by Glossop MRT's vehicle from Glossop Low shooting cabin down the Blackshaw farm track, and the team were stood down at 7.25pm.

GMRT - which receives no direct government funding - is continuing to appeal for donations to help ensure its volunteers can continue to turn out day and night to rescue people in wild and remote places.
