May Queen fun in Hayfield

Great weather greeted the welcome return, for the first time in two years, of the Hayfield May Queen celebrations.

Decorations throughout the village took inspiration from the chosen theme for this year’s Festival - the Seaside.

The colourful parade through the centre of the village was followed by activities on the field, including the crowning of this year’s royalty.

For Councillor Ollie Cross and his wife Gill, the event was their first engagement as High Peak Mayor and Mayoress.

Cllr Cross said: “A massive well done to all of the participants - they were absolutely brilliant and put on an amazing show.

“We both had a wonderful time, and you couldn't have asked for a better afternoon. Excellent turnout and it was a fantastic experience.”

He said it was pleasing to see so many smiling faces and lots of people having a thoroughly enjoyable time.

The organising committee were pleased with the fantastic support they received and would like to thank all those who have been a part of the weekend.

They said: “Thank you for all the support and kind donations this weekend! We hope you’ve all had an amazing time - we certainly have!”

Events continued on Sunday with the Food and Music Festival on the May Queen Field.

Still to come this week is a Pet Show is taking place on Wednesday, followed on Friday 20th by a Kids Disco at Hayfield Conservative Club and the Hayfield May Queen Fell Race.

The final event is a Fun Quiz on Sunday 22nd at the George Hotel at 8pm.
