Love is all around in New Mills

New Mills enjoyed an explosion of love across the town over the Valentine's weekend with residents and artists creating green heart displays.

Local artist Deborah Pitman teamed up with New Mills Festival to help the town take part in the national event #ShowTheLove, run every year by the Climate Coalition.

‘Yarn  bombers’ decorated the centre of town, pupils in schools created ceramic hearts and residents made hearts to put in windows for a town walking trail, along with a display at the station of hearts made out of willow.

Deborah said: “The official event ran until February 21 but many people have left the hearts on show as they look so good. People were so creative finding materials in lockdown.”

Deborah’s main aim was to let High Peak MP Robert Largan know people are passionate about protecting the climate.

He agreed to host a display of work by High Peak Community Arts group ‘Project eARTh’ in his constituency window.

Covid is stopping the group meeting at the moment so they mailed in artwork.

Deborah meanwhile is thrilled to say Robert told the group: “It’s a lovely local project as part of the national campaign by the Climate Coalition. I’m very happy to support it. Let’s all #ShowTheLove!”

New Mills Festival is entirely volunteer-run. A community and arts festival takes place every September, this year from September 10-26.
