Local farmer and biker both helped in busy day for rescue team

A local farmer who had come off his quad bike and a mountain biker who had fallen off his bike were helped in what was a busy day for Glossop Mountain Rescue Team.

Crews were called on Thursday (6 August) at 10.46am to assist a local farmer who suffered head injuries and fell from his quad bike.

With help from his friends, he managed to make his way towards a nearby track but was unable to make it all the way.

Along with members of Edale Mountain Rescue Team, crews from Glossop made their way up to the west-end track towards the Grinah Grain area - a remote part of Bleaklow.

An air ambulance had also landed near to Fairholmes and the crew were transported by mountain rescue vehicles to the scene.

After being given first-aid treatment, the farmer was then carried to the coastguard helicopter and taken to hospital.

Then, at 2.15pm, the team were called to help a mountain biker who suffered serious injuries after falling off his bike on the tracks near to Haggwater Bridge.

His injuries were serious enough for him to taken to hospital via air ambulance, with crews helping the air paramedics transfer the biker to the waiting helicopter which was unable to land near the scene.
