Learn more about Glossop's history at Heritage Open Days

Victoria Hall in Glossop.

There's a chance to learn and discover all about history and culture in Glossop as part of this year's Heritage Open Days.

The national festival is back this year as places across the country throw open their doors to celebrate their heritage, community and history, giving residents a chance to try out new experiences for free.

In Glossop, Friends of Victoria Hall has organised a series of events between Saturday 11 and Saturday 18 September, in collaboration with the Glossop Creative Trust and Glossop Creates.

They will be taking place at the old library building on Talbot Street.

Here's a breakdown of what you can get involved in:

Saturday 11 September
10am to 3pm
Open Day

There will be tours from 11am-12pm and 1pm-2pm consisting of a walk up the magnificent staircase into the main auditorium and back down – with information from Mike Bull, leader of Victoria Arts Centre team, about plans for the site and ways in which you can help. There is no charge but donations encouraged. There will also be a coffee morning, with hot drinks and biscuits available to purchase to raise funds.

Tuesday 14 September
10am to 12pm and 1pm to 3pm

Matthew Cox from Glossop Guided Tours
Matthew will use his wealth of local and historical knowledge and expertise for groups to experience ‘Echoes of Victoria Hall’ – reminiscence, recounting tales and gathering information and memories. The two sessions will be first come first served – with up to 20 people allowed for each interactive talk – available either by prior request or on the door. There is no charge but donations will be encouraged, and there will be a coffee morning with hot drinks and biscuits available to purchase to raise funds.

Thursday 16 September
7pm to 11pm
Kate Raine from Glossop Heritage Trust

Kate will talk about the history of Victoria Hall from 7.30pm to 9.30pm with an interval. There will be a licensed bar between 7pm and 11pm, as well as hot drinks and biscuits available to purchase to raise funds. No charge but donations will be encouraged, which will be split between Glossop Heritage Trust and Friends of Victoria Hall.

Friday 17 September
