Cllr Anthony McKeown, Leader of High Peak Borough Council and Simon Baker, Chief Executive Officer praised community-wide services during the ongoing Toddbrook Reservoir flood.
The statement, which was posted across the council's social media pages, said:
"High Peak Borough Council would like to reassure its residents and businesses that we are here to offer help and support during this time of uncertainty. Staff at all levels from across the Alliance have been working constantly to support the operation in Whaley Bridge as well as dealing with the wider issues caused by the more localised flooding earlier in the week.
The emergency services have been working tirelessly during these uncertain times and are continuing to do so. We would like to send our heartfelt thanks to each and every one of them and praise their resilience and determination to save our residents and businesses in Whaley Bridge. We have also been overwhelmed by the generosity and community spirit shown from across the High Peak and beyond. Offers of accommodation, food, help and support have poured in from across the North West which is both amazing and humbling.
Our housing team are currently supporting people who have been evacuated by providing accommodation and support, and regeneration officers are working with Derbyshire Chamber of Commerce and the LEP to make sure businesses have the support they need.
Staff have also visited over 100 properties in the area to check on residents and businesses that have been affected by the flooding and skips are being made available as appropriate. Our street clean team are working to clear debris from areas affected and structural damage is being assessed on buildings which were submerged."
