'It's good to be back' - Pubs welcome punters back through the doors

It was a wet start on Monday for the resumption of service indoors at High Peak's pubs after lockdown, but the rain did nothing to deter drinkers from dropping in on their favourite establishments.

Most of Glossop town centre's licensed premises opened at lunchtime, and it wasn't too long before regulars were back having a drink with friends.

It was the first time in months that many of them had enjoyed a drink away from home.

One man stopped mid-way through his pint to say: "I love drinking in a pub with friends. I am not one for drinking outside. It's good to be back."

And from the big smiles on the faces of pub owners and staff welcoming regulars on Monday, it was good to have them back.

All the pubs we visited, from J.D. Wetherspoon's Smithy Fold and the Norfolk Arms to the Howard Arms and the Corner Cupboard, were carrying out all of the required safety measures, with hand sanitising, separate entrances and exits, and track and tracing.

Not all of Glossopdale's pubs and restaurants opened on Monday, others were waiting a few days before getting back to business full time and seeing the regulars they call friends once again.

There will no doubt be many drinkers waiting for the forthcoming Bank Holiday weekend to celebrate the latest lockdown easing in style.
