International Women's Day: Meet Lauren Moore from The Bureau

Lauren Moore.

We're celebrating International Women's Day this week by looking at inspirational women who work in our local communities.

One of them is Lauren Moore, who is the Operations Manager at The Bureau in Glossop.

The Bureau works with the belief that all members of the community will have both support needs of their own and the capacity to support others at various times in their lives – in some cases simultaneously.

It is their mission to identify and link together community needs and solutions to enable people to live independently and improve the quality of life for local communities.

Over the last 20 years, The Bureau has grown and evolved in line with the changing needs and wants of local people. They have moved on from being purely a Volunteer Centre and now offer a range of different support including all supported through their team of over 250 volunteers.

In order to do this effectively they have strong partnerships with the statutory and Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprise (VCSE) sector and provide some elements of infrastructure support, including helping local voluntary groups to recruit, induct and train their volunteers.

The Bureau is situated on Henry Street in Glossop town centre, at the back of Norfolk Square

Lauren oversees the day-to-day running of The Bureau.

She told us: "My background is in retail management but, when I returned to work four years ago, I decided it was no longer a career path I wanted to follow. So I started at The Bureau as the car scheme co-ordinator. Since then I’ve just worked my way up. My skills have improved and I’ve grown along with the organisation.

“I love working here. It’s really important to me to feel part of the community and working at The Bureau really helps me with that. I can see the positive impact our work has on the lives of local people.

"The flexibility we have here makes it possible to adjust childcare. Our work life balance is fantastic here – I’m sure all the staff will agree.

"I am off on maternity leave again at the end of next month. I am planning to take a year off but I am going to find it really difficult to stay away as I love my job so much."
