How a local charity is helping Indian girls

A Glossop group is dedicating its time to sewing sanitary towels for less advantaged girls.

It's for Project World Girls' mission to help young women 'overcome cultural obstacles to achievement'.

Sebastian, Charlotte and Emma Leonhardsen, and Russel and Karen Gard aim to make 600 washable sanitary pads for girls living in poverty in India, alongside fundraising for the cause.

Money from the fundraiser will go to ROSE, the Rural Organisation for Society Empowerment, currently supporting young women in the Zillah Parishath High School near Isnapur in India.

Glossop’s Community Wellbeing Projects Manager, Charlotte, said: "We are excited to be involved in this much needed project. Supporting girls beyond as well as within our own borders is crucial if we wish to see a change and do our bit to address inequalities.

"We are particularly grateful to The Sewing Shop and The Bureau who are very kindly letting us use their premises to host our sewing events, and the WI – League of Ladies who kindly gift their time and sewing skills at our sewing events."
