Following the success of his first-ever High Peak Jobs & Apprenticeships Fair, local MP Robert Largan has announced that he will be hosting another Jobs & Apprenticeships Fair in 2022.

It will take place on Friday 23 September 2022 at the New Mills Leisure Centre from 10am until 2pm.

This event will be open to all High Peak residents with free admission, allowing young people, jobseekers and those wishing to re-train to access the wide variety of employment opportunities available to them.

The first-ever High Peak Jobs & Apprenticeships Fair was held in October 2021. The event was attended by hundreds of local residents from across the High Peak and over 40 of our region’s most recognisable employers. Vacancies were on offer in a range of sectors, from healthcare to engineering, helping to get people back into high-quality employment and helping our young people enter the job market as they leave education.

This year’s event will provide another valuable opportunity for people from across the High Peak to discuss current job vacancies and future employment opportunities with the region’s most recognised employers under one roof.

MP Largan said he is working with High Peak secondary schools, local authorities, job centres and the D2N2 Local Enterprise Partnership to ensure that this special event provides opportunity for all.

Employers who have already agreed to exhibit at the second High Peak Jobs & Apprenticeships Fair include Derbyshire Police, Derbyshire County Council, Chatsworth House, Swizzels Matlow, Nestle Waters, the NHS, the British Army, Breedon Cement Works and Ensana Buxton Crescent Hotel.

Parents and pupils will be able to benefit from a talk about apprenticeships from Apprenticeships Support & Knowledge (ASK) and receive one-to-one careers advice and CV-writing support from careers advisors at Derbyshire County Council, work coaches at Job Centre Plus and volunteers from The Zink Project.

Any employers interested in exhibiting at the fair are encouraged to get in touch with Robert’s office by emailing mail@robertlargan.co.uk or calling 01663 769779.

Robert Largan, MP for High Peak, commented:  “Last autumn, I organised the first-ever High Peak Jobs & Apprenticeships Fair. The event was a great success – with hundreds of local residents coming along to discuss opportunities with 40 of our area’s highest quality employers. Therefore, I am pleased that nearly 1,000 more people in High Peak are employed compared to May last year, but there is always more to be done.

“That’s why I am organising the second annual High Peak Jobs & Apprenticeships Fair, to be held at New Mills Leisure Centre on Friday 23 September from 10am until 2pm.

“The fair promises to provide another valuable opportunity for local businesses such as Swizzels and Nestle Waters to exhibit to jobseekers, school leavers and those wishing to re-train.

“The event will be open to all High Peak residents with free admission. If you know anybody who might be interested in coming along on the day, please feel free to share this with friends and family. I hope to see as many of you there as possible!”.

Laura Wilkins, North Derbyshire Careers Hub Lead at D2N2 Local Enterprise Partnership, said:  “Derbyshire North Careers Hub are once again thrilled to support the second annual Jobs & Apprenticeships Fair, hosted by Robert Largan MP.

“The Careers & Enterprise Company and D2N2 LEP Careers Hub is committed to supporting businesses, schools and colleges in the High Peak area with increasing awareness and opportunities of Apprenticeships and supporting young people to achieve their best next step.”

Jo Dilley, Managing Director of Marketing Peak District & Derbyshire, said: “We’re delighted to support the return of the High Peak Jobs & Apprenticeships Fair, which will once again play a vital role in highlighting the wealth of rewarding careers offered by local tourism and hospitality businesses.

“As the sector faces recruitment challenges, this event provides an excellent opportunity for local employers to come together under one roof to promote their vacancies to hundreds of people; boosting local employment, strengthening communities and making the area such a great place to live, work and visit.

“Whether you’re looking for a part-time role, searching for a new long-term career or looking to retrain, this event is about opening people’s ideas to the diversity and flexibility of Derbyshire’s jobs market. We urge businesses to get involved.”
