Heading for the hills to support our heroes of the hills

Glossop-based Powsers' Mountaineering Club has completed a 30km sponsored walk in the Derbyshire hills, raising a total of £1,776 for Glossop Mountain Rescue Team.

GMRT Funding Officer, Gareth Kindley, was joined by GMRT’s Vice President Pete Stewart and Darren Hodkinson to receive the cheque that was presented by Powsers’ Treasurer Bernard Barnes and some of his fellow club members at the Bull’s Head in Old Glossop.

Bernard said: “Since the club was established almost 40 years ago, our annual charity walks have raised around £50,000 in support of many worthy local causes.

“We’ve had close links with the mountain rescue team since 1982 and it’s pleasing to help them with some extra funding. Over the years, this is the fifth occasion that GMRT have been the beneficiaries from our annual sponsored charity walk.

“They do a fantastic job and have been particularly busy with call-outs in the Bleaklow area during the past twelve months. The cash raised will buy a set of special tyres for one of the team’s off-road ambulances and provide some accessories for their new digital radio communication system.”

The Powsers are out on the hills every Sunday and take lots of trips further afield.
