Hayfield welcomes sheepdog trials and show

Hayfield Country Show and Sheepdog Trials are back this weekend and, for two days, the village’s population is set to soar.

Show days always bring in hundreds of people from all over the area.

With last month’s Mottram Show cancelled due to bad weather, even more people could be heading to the Spray House Farm showgrounds on both Saturday and Sunday.

The highlight will be the sheepdog trials, which always attract some of the best dogs and handlers.

Show organisers always boast there is something for everyone at the Little Hayfield show - and it’s the same this year.

There’s everything from livestock classes to an oompah band and lots in between.

There will be a welcome return of The Cavalry of Heroes turning back the clock a few hundred years with all the excitement of medieval jousting.

Hawkeye Falcony UK will give a display by birds of prey, while The Bowmen of the Peak will be also be on target both days.

Saturday starts at 9am with the open class singles dog trials.

It always sees the popular junior and senior fell races, where the competition is always keen.

Going on throughout the day and continuing into Sunday will be a display of shire horses and the show involving dogs and ducks.

Other attractions include a magician and ventriloquist and The Schunklers Bavarian Oompah Band.

There’s more sheepdog trials from 8am on Sunday, with the packed programme going on again until late afternoon.

Attractions to look out for feature a companion dog show, a gun dog demonstration and ‘Well Heeled’ a team of Appalachin Dancers.

There will be plenty of stalls and sideshows, food and drink franchises.
