People have until 27 January to comment on the next phase of works to refurbish the heritage halls in Glossop.

It is part of a massive regeneration project that looks to revitalise the Town Hall, Market Hall, and Municipal Buildings.

The £7 million scheme, being funded by High Peak Borough Council, includes a £2 million grant contribution from the D2N2 Local Enterprise Partnership via their Getting Building Fund.

The first phase of the project included replacing the Market Hall roof and the removal of the floor, as well as internal plaster repairs in the Municipal Buildings.

Now attention is turning to plans to create a new mezzanine level that would be home to 11 commercial units.

In the main market hall, facilities for seven food outlets are proposed along with a bar area.

The extensive remodelling also includes the alteration of ground floor toilet areas to form male, female, and accessible facilities, while the arcade area and existing ground floor retail units will be refurbished.

The application put forward is also to restore the first floor of the town hall and create open plan offices and meeting rooms, improve toilet facilities, and create further offices on the second floor.

Further changes would also see the replacement of the platform lift currently located in the stairwell.

The full plans are available to view and comment on via the council’s website at www.highpeak.gov.uk
