Have your say on future of broadband in Derbyshire

Residents are being invited to have their say on where in Derbyshire could benefit from the government's Project Gigabit broadband rollout scheme.

After delivering better, faster broadband to over 100,000 homes and businesses in the county, Derbyshire County Council is now supporting the Government’s scheme to bring next generation ultrafast, reliable broadband to everyone in the UK with download speeds of up to 1,000Mbs (1 GBs).

The consultation is being carried out by Building Digital UK (BDUK) to help identify areas in Derbyshire that may be suitable for future public funding for gigabit-capable broadband particularly in rural areas.

Derbyshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Infrastructure and Environment, Councillor Carolyn Renwick, said: “We are committed to improving access, speed and reliability for homes and businesses across the county and particularly in rural areas.

“Since the pandemic, more families and businesses are relying on the internet more then ever before and we want to make sure nobody is missing out on the best service.

“We’re urging residents and businesses to take part in the consultation before it closes to help identify where in Derbyshire could benefit from the Government’s Project Gigabit broadband roll out scheme.”
