Groups urged to contact county councillors to support local activities

Councillors at Derbyshire County Council have extra funding available this year to help local groups in their area.

Each county councillor usually has £3,860 to give to local groups, but this year an additional £3,860 has been allocated, bringing their total to £7,720.

And next year councillors will receive £3,860, plus £1,500 Platinum Fund to give to local groups organising activities to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

Groups seeking funding should contact their local county councillor explaining the nature of the project, the amount sought, what other funding may be available, and how it will benefit the community.

Councillor Barry Lewis, Leader of Derbyshire County Council, said: “I’m delighted that we are able to double the amount that councillors can spend in their area this year.

“This funding is always well received by local communities, so I’d urge all local groups to contact their local county councillor with their proposals.

“I am also pleased that we are to offer communities throughout the county the opportunity to apply for funding from our Platinum Fund to run events to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee next summer. I’m sure that there will be a wealth of events run across the county to mark this wonderful time.”

During the 2020/21 financial year, a total of 851 applications were received and approved which were aimed at supporting local organisations and activities through the pandemic.

The county council say it will be providing a package of advice for communities wishing to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee which will include advice on how to ask for a road closure for street party events.
