Glossop's Bonfire and Fireworks display back with a bang

Glossop's Bonfire and Fireworks display was back with a bang on Saturday, with between 5-6,000 people flocking to Manor Park, despite the rain, to enjoy an evening of entertainment.

Organised by Glossop Round Table with the support of volunteers, community groups, organisations and local businesses, the thousands of pounds raised by the evening will be donated to local charities.

Edward Siddall, from Glossop Round Table, said: “We had a really good event - it was probably one of the most successful ever.

“The whole community really came together to support and help us make it a perfect event.”

There was a brief interruption to the children’s firework display while a protester was quickly removed from within the safety zone/fall out area.

Brilliant performances by Centre Stage Dance Academy and Tintwistle Band entertained the crowds. Music was provided by DJ Colin Waude, with Tameside Radio’s Mark Andrews the compere for the evening.

People were also able to enjoy a range of fair rides, various food stalls and a bar.

Double Paralympic gold medal-winning cyclist Ben Watson and High Peak Mayor Cllr Paul Hardy were invited to light the bonfire.

Special guests also included Mayoress Mary Hardy, High Peak MP Robert Largan and legendary former Chronicle editor David Jones.

Any charities that would like to come forward to ask for donations from the proceeds raised can contact the Round Table through their Facebook page or by emailing glossoprt@gmail.com

The Round Table would like to thank all the many volunteers, groups and businesses who supported the event including:

Roy Greens Butchers, Bay Tree Books, D&D Newsagents, Martins Manor Store, Richard Lloyd Homes, Country Homes Estate Agents, High Peak Borough Council and Environmental Services, Ryder and Dutton, Gas Care, MBC Building Contractors, Markovitz, Travis Perkins, Pendlebury Pyrotechnics, Trevor Zoppi and Jane Fletcher, Fun Fair and Candy Floss and Ayubowen Restaurant.
