Glossopdale Sixth Form students celebrate A Level successes

Pride in students who started studies at Talbot House before moving to new school last September

It was ‘crunch time’ for students and  staff at Glossopdale School as the GCE A Level results were finally revealed.

But there were smiles and hugs all round after what turned out to be one success after another.

In the Vocational courses, Btec and Cambridge Technical qualifications, there was a pass rate of 100 per cent.

While the A Levels achieved a 99 per cent pass rate - 63 per cent of students achieving grades of A* to C.

Assistant head teacher in charge of the sixth form Fionula Flaherty, said: “It’s been a year of change for the school.

“These students started their A Level courses at Talbot House before moving to the new school last September.

“We achieved a good Ofsted report for the Sixth Form this year and we are now establishing a strong ethos of success.”

Mrs Flaherty said students had done particular well in creative media, textiles, art, geography, sociology and law.

Sixty per cent of students have applied for university places, 64 per centre of offers were unconditional.

Mrs Flaherty said: “We are proud of students who continued to work hard and maintain their high standards throughout their studies.”

Looking to the future she added: “We are beginning the new academic year on a very positive note with over 100 students signed up to join the sixth form after their GCSE results next week.

“We have a new executive  headteacher in Debbie McGloin, who has a clear strategic  vision and the determination  to ensure Glossodale School and Sixth Firm will be a school where every child achieves their full potential, leaving with the skills and qualifications needed to prepare them effectively for their future pathway.

“Our new school vision is ‘To Aspire, Endeavour and Thrive Together’ and this  can  be clearly seen in the  successful exam grades our students have achieved yoday.

“They are now ready to begin  their next steps on their  future careers,  achieving their aspirations with confidence in their achievements and talants.”
