Glossop women complete tough fitness challenge for charity

A group of Glossop ladies put themselves to the ultimate test in a gruelling workout challenge.

The dedicated ladies at Hayloft Fitness decided they would complete a demanding workout and raise some highly appreciated funds for two important charities, simultaneously.

Setting themselves a challenge of completing 50,000 exercise repetitions, a total of 26 women pushed themselves to the ultimate limit and raised an amazing £1,310.

Director Ella Burgreave was incredibly proud of how much effort everyone had applied to the fundraiser and praised their ‘sheer grit and determination’.

On average, each lady completed 1,924 repetitions, some doing more and some doing just under.

“They always work so hard, but I really want to celebrate them for this because bringing this event into action was a real herculean task.

“They are a great bunch, so it was nice to finally do something together after Covid. We managed to complete the task in just under 50 minutes, which was amazing,” she said.

When planning the day, Ella had pictured two separate teams competing to raise money for two charities. One team fastened their laces for Reuben’s Retreat, and another grabbed their water bottles for Willow Wood Hospice.

The aim was to have these teams compete, with the winner’s receiving the money for their charity.

“My original target was to raise £500, but on the morning of the event we had collated £800. So, because we hit over the target, someone on the losing team asked if we could split the money.

“I took a second to think about it because the whole idea was for it to be competitive. They were all looking at me as if to hint that it was a good idea.

“So, I said why don’t why try and reach £1000 by the end of the next day and then we can split £500 between the two.”

This idea worked wonders for their fundraising. While Ella was cleaning up, she noticed her phone was bursting with notifications.

At the time of the page closing, they had raised an admirable £1,310. Both charities were then able to reap the benefits of this generous challenge.

Hayloft is home to women of all shapes and sizes. With 18-year-olds and women aged 65 all coming together to share the love of fitness, it truly is a special place.

Fitness has always been a big part of Ella’s life. Her mother opened the business in the 90’s as a ‘ladies only’ facility. This ethos has stuck and now the company offers the freedom of fitness to so many.

Ella, along with associate Natalie, share their passion for fitness with all their clients and continue to empower women through physical activity.

They plan to recreate an event like this again next year, an idea which members seem to be very keen on.
