Regulars at a Glossop pub are hoping to raise a thousand pounds for charity.

Drinkers at The Star Inn on Howard Street are holding various events to raise much-needed funds for Cancer Research.

They have already held a cheese and onion pie competition, in memory of local man Tony Sparkes who died with cancer.

There's also live music nights, with the singers donating their time for free and a 1980s music quiz on 15 September.

Ann Winterbottom works at the pub and has organised most of the events.

She told us: "The target we want to reach is a thousand pounds. Every Wednesday the pub’s been holding music quizzes with all donations going to the total.

"Local businesses have donated prizes for a raffle and we’re now selling tickets. It’s a good night and quiz participants usually end up singing and dancing."

Ann adds: “It’s a charity that’s close to my heart as some of our regulars have died from it and it’s also affected members of my family.”
