Glossop performing arts school holds online Christmas concert

Take Part, a performing arts school in Glossop, invited care homes and hospitals to join their 'Big Christmas Sing-a-long' last weekend using Zoom.

Thirty-three performers took to the theatre stage at Glossopdale School in three socially distanced bubbles, singing festive songs and reciting poems for their audience. The older students even penned their own poems on the meaning of Christmas.

Beginning at 11.30am, the online performance lasted 50 minutes - with an audience that included the Millview Respite Centre in Marple and the Sycamores Care Home in Hyde.

Head of Take Part, Leanne Chance, said: “This year has really shown how much friendship and family mean to people. The kids have had to deal with constant change, from school to home, and they’ve shown how resilient they are.”

“They loved seeing the different faces of the care home residents enjoying themselves and this has shown that people and the community can pull together.”

Take Part teaches acting, singing, dancing, music, improvisation, public speaking and much more, giving children as young as four the chance to express themselves creatively.

Usually, they’d offer free trial classes, but due to the pandemic, these are on hold. However, Leanne hopes to open the school back up after restrictions lift, though she is offering remote classes and mental health support to those that need it.
