Glossop opticians helping to keep schoolchildren safe

A Glossop community optician is helping to make sure children are both safe and seen by donating a set of high visibility vests to Padfield Primary School.

Specsavers on High Street West has handed over more than 100 vests to the village school to increase pupil safety by making it easier for motorists to spot them when their activities take them out into the community.

It follows Specsavers’ recent partnership with road safety charity Brake to raise awareness of the importance of looking after our sight, particularly when driving.

Headteacher Anne Moore said: “We often take children on trips throughout the Glossop area, so it’s imperative we keep our children safe at all times. The high visibility vests are fantastic, and we are extremely grateful to Specsavers for making such a generous donation.”

Paul Hodgson, store director at Specsavers in Glossop, said: “Many of our customers and staff have close ties with Padfield Community Primary School and we’re proud to help increase the safety of its children and spread the message around the importance of being clearly visible on the roads and elsewhere.

“We are also hoping to raise awareness of free glasses and eye tests that are available to under 16-year-olds. It is important children have regular eye tests as an undetected problem could lead to something more severe in the long term.”
