Glossop homes plan looks set to be turned down

The proposed site plan for the land.

A decision on plans for 23 new homes to be built on land off Hollin Cross Lane in Glossop looks set to be made next week.

The application is due to go before High Peak Borough Council’s Development Control meeting and is recommended for refusal.

The proposal is to demolish redundant buildings on the site, convert Redcourt, a former care facility, to provide four new homes and build a further 19 new properties.

The new homes would be seven two-bedroomed units, 13 three-bedroomed, and three four-bedroomed units with access to the site off Hollin Cross Lane and Slatelands Road.

A total of 342 objections have been submitted raising various concerns around access, traffic, congestion, loss of trees and habitat and the negative impact it will have on the local area.

The report from planning officers recommends refusal as the scheme would be harmful to the character and appearance of the conservation area and benefits of the development do not outweigh the harm it would cause.

The plans have also seen objections put forward from local councillors, Jean and George Wharmby, Damien Greenhalgh and Rachel Abbotts, and High Peak MP Robert Largan.

Residents wanting to view the application or to comment can do so through the borough council website.

The application will go before the Development Control meeting being held at Buxton’s Pavilion Gardens on Monday 24 January at 1.30pm.
